Self Help For Depression ... Dealing With Depression
Self help for depression starts by thinking about it as being depressed.
It's a passive occupation - a feeling that something is being done to you against your will, but paradoxically you don't have the will to do anything about it.There are many drugs (usually Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) that alter brain chemistry to give you a fighting chance, and while they can often offer relief in the short term, most doctors will tell you that their long-term use isn't recommended. So what else can you do? First, notice yourself reading this now. That's a really good sign, because that means a big part of you is tired of feeling this way and is reaching out for answers. That part of you is prepared to try new things, because the old ways are just way too tiring. There's a lovely concept known as the 'tipping point' (also known as 'being at the end of your tether'). This is when some part of you decides that enough is enough - this resonates with other parts of you and you start to reach out for change... Have you had enough of feeling depressed? If you're used to it, it can almost seem like an old friend - but remember, a true friend wouldn't want you to suffer. A comfort zone should at least be comfortable, and so I reckon it's time to get out of it. Let's mess with that ol' d-word and get some results. Table of contents:
