Depression Help - Check Reality
Depression help comes from a new perspective on what you may think you know as normal. But first...
How long have you had depression? The most common answer is "always". But if you think about it, weren't there times when you actually felt fairly good? No depression help required. I'm not talking about the 'life and soul of the party' necessarily, but simply fairly good. "Ah," you may say, "but I was just fooling myself". This is one of the clever side-effects of feeling depressed - it colours time. If you are feeling down now, all past events can seem tainted - good experiences seem foolish, and bad experiences... well, they're just great ways to make yourself feel worse. And the future? Worst-case scenarios all the way, maybe even no future predicted. But stop this instant! It's only true if you believe it... Depression is so passive - it makes you the victim, receiving pain and misery with no energy to fight back and nothing specifically to fight against. Remember how depression colours time? That includes the present, which we know as Reality. So what is Reality? The notion of Reality is unique to all of us, as it can only be experienced through our senses. Your senses constantly give information to your brain, which filters relevant and non-relevant information to create experience. Your uniqueness comes from those filters which decide what is relevant. They are created over your lifetime based on trial and error, interests and learnings. So Reality isn't what you're really experiencing - it's filtered Reality... Depression help thought: "Imagine a pair of sunglasses on a bright day. You have to look through them to be able to function. Now imagine there's a sticky layer of grime on the lenses - you can still basically function, but everything is grime-coloured. After a while, you get used to not seeing things such as bright colours and interesting details. You start to imagine things must always have looked this way - well, they have done for a while, so it's a small leap. Everything's so drab. That's just the way it is. Oh well." If the filters are tinting everything and they were man-made, then an idea presents itself... can you amend or even change your filters? Can you change your Reality? You didn't always have depression - it's a mixture of self-protection, learnings and possibly some outside influences that have generalized into a reliable mechanism. This mechanism could do with an overhaul. How do we treat victims if we're compassionate people? We look after and protect them, and ideally give them the space and opportunity to rebuild and empower themselves. We want them to be strong in the future, no longer a victim. With that in mind, look at the part of you that is suffering from depression - what does it need? You may feel protective and even angry on its behalf - this is unfair and has to stop! What can I do right now to give power and strength to this part - I will not tolerate this injustice any more! Feel the difference between passive and active - of being 'done to' or 'doing'. It's a different energy. Think about all the creation that's constantly happening in nature - new cells replacing old cells all the time, growing, expanding - it's all about the active. Welcome yourself back to this positive, progressing, active world.
